# When the repair is worth it, and when it is not

The question has two numbers in it and most people are only ever shown one. The repair bands and the replacement figures are printed side by side, and the $80 diagnostic turns the band into a firm number before the comparison is made.

## What replacing it costs instead

| Replacing instead | Appliance only |
| --- | --- |
| Wall oven or built-in oven, the usual repair-or-replace comparison | $5,200–$10,500 |
| Dual-fuel or gas range, 36 inch and up | $8,500–$16,500 |

A comparable Wolf range, rangetop or wall oven, appliance only — before delivery, installation, ventilation or cabinetry. National appliance pricing, not Florida labour.

## The three cases

- **The repair is clearly the buy.** One catalogued part has failed and its band is a fraction of the replacement figure. This is the ordinary case.
- **It is a judgement call.** Two failures on one visit stack two bands, or the part has gone to long lead time and the cost is a kitchen without an oven rather than money.
- **Replacing is the honest answer.** The part is no longer made, or the damage is to the cavity or the manifold rather than to a component. Age alone is not the test.

## What the diagnostic leaves you holding

Flat $80 diagnostic, credited in full toward the repair if you go ahead with it. You get a written estimate before any part is ordered or any labour is billed. Whichever way the comparison goes, the document is the same: the failed component, its part number, its price and the labour to fit it. 90 days on labour, 365 days on parts, genuine OEM parts only.

## What it costs

| Work | Parts and labour |
| --- | --- |
| Diagnostic visit | $80 flat, credited to the repair |
| Igniter or spark module replacement | $190–$500 |
| Burner valve or orifice service | $210–$650 |
| Oven thermostat or temperature sensor | $170–$520 |
| Convection fan or motor | $250–$730 |

Bands, not quotes: the firm figure is written down after the diagnosis, and nothing is ordered before you have it.
